7 Tips For Banner Designer Newbies

There are different things to consider when designing banners. All the ads that you've been seeing online is either creatively created or just simply there to advertise. It is time to stop and think; are you really selling your banners?

Let's break it down. The first part: Copywriting.
A good design empowers your banner but it's the wording that narrows down what it's all about. Ask yourself, "what is your goal?" and you're on your way to create a good banners straight to the point.
The second part: Audience.
There's a saying "if you speak to everybody, you're speak to nobody". It could happen to your banners! There's a million piece of banners everyday and most of us just skip reading it because they're boring. They only listen to what they want to. Start by narrowing down your audience, and you'll sell.
The third part: Imagine yourself as the audience.
What do you want to see? Imagine if you have a product and it could solve people's problem, they will be more interested in your product if you're speak about it using their words. All the technical stuffs is boring so you should use a more appropriate words to tackle them, not the other way around (except for technical geeks, you'll need that).
The fourth part: Get it straight to the point.
Yes we know your product is so cool and all but you have to remember, keep it brief or they'll run away! It's easy as reading the newspaper. We want the news, not the fillers! Choose your words carefully and you'll hit the mark perfectly.
The fifth part: Use catchy/killer words.
Avoid expressions (some call them buzzwords) like "make money", "client focused", '130% value", "innovative" and such because everybody uses them already and they're also bores users to death Words like FREE are one of the strongest word that you can use in a banner. Just don't trick them for a free fake approach or you'll just be getting clicks with no sale whatsoever because they'll leave immediately!
The sixth part: Call-to-action. It works every time.
Try including a "click here" text or button or whatever call-to-action you can think of and immediately, it will drive clicks to your banners! But don't try to fool them though. Users expect something when they click and you don't want to let them down.
The seventh part: A different approach.
Always use the try and error method. Especially in banners, you can't stick to one banner to make it work. Try it different way! The best method is to ask people. It sure helps to get different views, especially if the view is from your target audience! You'll be seeing something new and also get to know what really makes sense to them in your banner designs. Let's hope for a better banner designs and I hope you can apply these practices to archive a better banner.
